About My Neighbor's Closet
The Columbia, SC Chapter of Sisters Encouraging Sisters Ministries, Inc., is proud to provide a new service to Columbia and surrounding communities with the opening of "My Neighbor's Closet". This service provides free clothes to the homeless and those in need. We have clothing for men, women and children.
Our organization was able to acquire a permanent location for My Neighbor's Closet. Through generous donations, we are able to provide free clothes, shoes, personal hygiene items such as towels, soap, hand sanitizer, lotion, shampoo & conditioner, toothbrush, and toothpaste.
Look at God! We opened the doors of My Neighbor's Closet at 1717 Gervais Street., Suite 101, Columbia, SC 29201 on August 6, 2016 and as of April 30, 2017, we have served over 700 customers... Men, women and children.
My Neighbor's Closet is open every Tuesday from 11:00AM until 1:00PM, and the first & third Saturday from 11:00AM until 1:00PM. Individuals or families that cannot make it in during our normal hours of operation can call 803-509-1833 to schedule an appointment to come in and shop.
Sisters Encouraging Sisters Ministries, Inc., is supported 100% by donations from those that have a desire to be a blessing to others. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and all donations are tax-deductible. Our customers range from the homeless, those living in shelters, college students, low income families, and those that just need a little help. We wanted our customers to have a shopping experience like anyone going into any local department store to shop. The only difference is they don't have to pay for their items.
We have been blessed to have great supporters who donate very nice clothes and shoes, many of which are brand-new. However, we are always in need of monetary donations to purchase items for those in need. Your financial donations is greatly appreciated and can be made via the Donate section link on our Home page.
What has touched me the most is being able to provide new underwear and socks to our customers. Many of us give no thought to being able to take a shower and put on clean underwear and socks. That is not the case for our homeless population. Many of them end up wearing their socks and undergarment for multiple days until they can get new ones. All cash donations to "My Neighbor's Closet" go to the purchase underwear, socks and personal hygiene products. Presently, we are able to provide at least one pair of new underwear and socks per person. A donation of $10 to $15 allows us to purchase a pack of men or women's underwear or a pack socks.
We are always in need of volunteers, individuals, youth groups and social clubs that are looking for a way to give back to the community. We welcome you to be a part of our cause. For more information or to get involved, please call 803-509-1833.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
